A Home for Every Heart

Day Center for Women and Children

9009 Canyon Drive, Kent, WA 98030

open 7 days a week, 7:00 am to 8:30 pm

The KentHOPE Women and Children’s Day Center opened on December 16th, 2013. We host an average of 30 women and children each day and meet their immediate needs. We offer 3 substantial meals a day, showers, laundry facilities, clothing, computers with internet access, health care, life skills classes, advocacy and hope. We also work with partners in the community to find jobs and housing for our guests. In our first 3 and 1/2 years of operation we assisted 410 women in finding stable, transitional or recovery housing, and 190 women found jobs.

On March 16th, 2014, we launched a Women’s Rotating Overnight Shelter to house our guests after the Holy Spirit/ Catholic Community Services Women’s Winter Shelter closed for the winter season.  In 2015, we were able to expand the number of overnight beds to 30, thanks to funding by the City of Seattle Human Services Department. Eleven generous Kent churches now provide monthly overnight shelter in their facilities year round, in addition to Holy Spirit/Catholic Community Services’ 15 bed Women’s Winter Shelter.

We are thankful for more than 350 volunteers who have donated time, advocacy, skills, meals, or in-kind donations to the Day Center and have been instrumental in it’s success. We depend on volunteers!

  1. My family is currently homeless and I have no address to receive important mail I see that the day center offers temporary mail service. What do I need to do in order to use this service and what address do I use, (the day center address)?

    1. Hi Rachel,
To receive mail service, you must come in and complete an intake interview to become a Day Center registered guest. This will give you access to all of the Day Center services and resources, including mail. Come to 9009 Canyon Drive, Kent WA, 7:00am to 8:30pm.

  2. I am a member of South King County Yarn Hoarders. At our meeting this morning we discussed donating hand made scarves, hats, and miscellaneous toiletry items and feminine products. Would these items be helpful? Several of us may be interested in teaching a crochet or knitting class, also. And, would you be able to use yarn for crafting projects?

    1. What a generous offer! We ALWAYS need toiletries and feminine products. And hand-made scarves and hats would be a luxury. These items may be dropped off at the Day Center, 9009 Canyon Drive in Kent, 7:00am through 8:30pm. You may also call the Day Center at (253) 480-2325 about the yarn donation and classes. Speak to Anne who coordinates arts and crafts projects with our guests.

  3. Hi Sarah,
Right now we are well-stocked for toys for the number of children we serve (about three a day). But you may take your donations to the Union Gospel Mission Distribution Center in Kent, 8226 South 208th Street, Kent, WA 98032. Hours are Monday—Saturday, 8:30am—4:30pm. Toys, household goods and clothing that are donated there, are made available to KentHOPE guests when they are needed, as well as the women and children in UGM’s transitional housing programs in Kent and South Seattle. Your will receive a receipt for your donations. Thanks for thinking of our homeless neighbors.
